ON THE DAY
WHAT TO EXPECT - TEMPLE PORTRAITS
This is the day your family has been looking forward to, and it's going to be epic! In most cases, our day will begin with Temple Portraits. These are really fun and easy breezy. If you're not super comfortable in front of the camera, don't worry. I'll guide you through easy poses and keep things moving. We start off in the sanctuary with portraits in the aisle. Then we move towards the bima and put on the tallit. Before you know it, we're taking out the Torah. I like to keep the kids chatting and laughing because stiff, formal portraits aren't my jam. If it's a nice day, we head outside. Finally, we move back inside to get extended family shots until the Rabbi needs your child to prepare for the service. Grandparents, aunts, and uncles are always welcome to join us for these. At conservative synagogues, we would typically take all of the indoor portraits first, and then end our session outside if weather permits. Every portrait session is unique of course, but these are the key moments that I try to capture in my Temple Portrait flow.

WHAT TO EXPECT - THE PARTY
The service is over and now it's time to celebrate! Most Bar & Bat Mitzvah parties begin with a cocktail hour. We would meet one hour before the cocktail hour begins, in order to begin Party Portraits. Like the Temple Portraits, these are fun and relaxed, but a little more glammed-up. Sometimes we twirl. Sometimes we do a power pose. Typically, we begin our Party Portraits in the party room. We then might head outside or to another location at the event space, depending on the weather, season, time of day, etc. I start the hour with the core family, but you can invite extended family to join as well. These sessions are tailored to you.
Once the cocktail hour begins, I move about the party capturing the decor, details, candid and posed guest shots, etc. After the cocktail hour, the party gets into full swing. There might be a Grand Entrance at this time. Then it's time for the Hora and the Motzi. I love when my clients carve out time for photo opportunities like the candle lighting and speeches, because these are guaranteed to have emotion, drama, and excitement.
